Monumental route in Málaga
MalagaLodge proposes you a Route in Malaga where you will be able to see the most important monuments of the city.
To begin in the Avenida Cervantes, numbers 1 and 2, we can find the Casa del Jardinero and El Rectorado of the university. Both were built in the 20th century, the second one was built in Neomudejar style.
Going to calle Alcazabilla 8, Alcazabilla street, we find the Teatro Romano, Roman Theatre. Built in the 1th century during the August´s times. Later, in arab times, it was used as a material´s quarry. In the number 2 of the same street, we can see the Alcazaba, the Arab Fort: built as a palace and fort in the 11th century, is one of the most important monuments in Málaga. Inside the alcazaba, you can visit the Archaeological Museum. Close to the Fort is built the Gibralfaro Castle, 14th century.
In cister street 1, Zea- Salvatierra Palace, a building of the 17th, an example of the baroque domestic architecture.
The Cathedral of Málaga, Molina Lario street 9, was built between the 16 and 18th century on the biggest mosque of Málaga. Called the "Manquita" because the south tower is not finished, inside you can see Pedro de Mena´s sculpture and an organ of the 18th century; furthermore the Cathedral Museum is there. Close to the Cathedral, there´s a church called Sagrario, of the15-18th, built in a gotic style.
In front of the main face of the Cathedral, there´s a square called Bishop square, Plaza del Obispo, where you can see the Episcopal Palace with the Diocesan Museum.
Plaza de la Constitución, Constitution square, called the four streets square in arab times, in the heart of the city. In the center of the square there´s a Fountain, called Fuente de Genova, Genoa Fountain, an example of italian renaissance.
